The Flamingo is a large wading bird that lives in big shallow lakes, lagoons, mangrove swamps, tidal flats, and on sandy islands above the low tide mark. They can be are found in places such as, Africa, Asia, North America, Central America, South America, and Europe. Flamingos can live in hot volcanic lakes and in icy lakes in the Andean mountains.
The adult flamingos range from about 3 to 5 feet tall and weighs about 3 to 9 pounds depending on their species. Their wingspans range from about 3 to 5 feet. There are 6 different species of the flamingo.
The color of the flamingo is a pink or reddish color which comes from the algae, diatoms, and small crustaceans the birds eat. They also feast on aquatic insects. An interesting fact is that the Flamingos eat with their head upside down in the water. This way, they are able to suck water and food in with the front of their bill. Karol's story is quite simple: When she was about ten years old, her sister gave her the first camera she would ever use. She took right to photography and could be found capturing burned out buildings, old boats and whatever else she could find. In her high school days, she was hardly seen without a camera in her hand. She participated in photography classes and had her own home darkroom. At that time, most of Karol's work consisted of capturing the essence of a person.
