Artist's Description
Even though Opossums are a nocturnal mammal, I saw this guy almost every day last winter. We had so much snow that at one point I was unable to get to my bird feeders, therefore used a snowbank and this guy found it. He created a den by the bird feeders and had a feast all winter long. As the snow was finally melting, one warm day I saw him walking further into the woods. That was the last time I saw him. I will be looking for him this winter, but unfortunately most Opossums only live 2-4 years. They are killed by humans (cars), dogs, cats, larger wildlife and owls. They are the shortest lived mammal of its size.
