Winter Searching - Original Photography by Karol Livote
Taken in my backyard, Monroe, Connecticut, today, January 27. So far this winter has been keeping the white stuff on the ground. This beauty is one of seven white-tailed deer that are regular visitors to my property. They spend the winter searching for whatever foliage is left on the trees. They cross our property usually around sunrise and sunset, but there are days that they just hang around all day. Today, was one of those days. Which of course, is fine by me! As the temperature rose today, they were able to get to the grass for some nibbing.
White-tailed deer- are found in Southern Canada and most of the United States. Adult weight ranges from 110-150 lbs. Feed on grass, twigs, apples, buds, acorns, and a wide variety of hardwood treees and leaves from conifer trees such as white pine and hemlock.
