Description
Mallard: Very familiar duck in fresh water areas, such as ponds, lakes, and rivers. Can also be seen in the coastal areas such as harbors, bays, canals and even beaches. They feed on aquatic insects, seeds, plants, and are ground feeders offering corn. I personally have had them come to my bird feeders and feed off the ground. The male is also known as the "Drake", he has a large bulbous green head with a yellow bill, His sides are a combination of grey and white, with a rust-brown or chestnut colored chest. The female is all brown with an orange and black bill. The juvenile looks like the female but sports a yellow bill like the male.
