Another great day to visit Mohawk Mountain!!! It was an ordinary winter day here in Connecticut, just cold with a touch of snowfall on the ground until I headed up the road to Mohawk Mountain. The sun was shining with a beautiful glistering of ice on the trees. Another gorgeous moment of Mother Nature showing herself.
The mountain itself stands at 1,683 ft, so the higher you went, the more ice you saw. The mountain views are beautiful, no matter what time of year you go. At the top, you can view the Catskill, Taconic and Berkshire ranges.
There is a very interesting history about Mohawk Mountain: the Tunxis and Paugussett Indians would use smoke signals to warn local tribes of the approach of the dreaded Mohawk Indians. That is the reason of the name "Mohawk Mountain". The mountain and surrounding acres are located in the towns of Goshen and Cornwall. There are remnants of buildings and fireplace chimneys that can be found on the land that were once a camp from the 1930's.
It was another great day to get out and see the beauty of nature in New England!!
